Software
Release June 26, 2002 - B&B Electronics Mfg. Co., makers of the AutoTap® OBD II scantool, has announced the upcoming release of OBD II diagnostic software for the PalmT PDA. AutoTap for Palm software puts the power of an OBD II scantool into an inexpensive, portable platform. Users can view and log real-time generic OBD II parameters as well as view generic and enhanced diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's). "We've found that the low-cost hand held scantools fall short because they only offer generic trouble codes. Too often, this reveals only part of the vehicle's problem. We felt it was critical to offer all DTC's to customers, even in our entry level products", says Mike Fahrion. AutoTap for Palm software is compatible with the AutoTap for Windows V2 software. Users can use the Palm to log data and playback the log files within the graphical environment of AutoTap for Windows as well as export those files to a spreadsheet for further analysis. AutoTap for Palm uses the same hardware cable as the popular AutoTap for Windows® software, so existing AutoTap customers will not need to purchase two separate pieces of hardware to use both products. New AutoTap for Palm customers can easily add additional software packages from the AutoTap suite without the expense of purchasing additional hardware. AutoTap for Palm software will begin shipping in early July. The software is compatible with Palm OS 3.1 and up. Founded in 1981, B&B Electronics Mfg. Co. is a medium sized electronics engineering and manufacturing operation. It is headquartered in Ottawa, Illinois, about 90 miles west of Chicago. Specializing in computer interface converters, B&B has been building vehicle interface products since 1994.
