Built on years of data compilation and vehicle testing for our AutoTap OBDII Diagnostic Scan Tool, the OBDII Streamer allows Application Service Providers and fleet managers to integrate vehicle parameters into their applications with minimal knowledge of the vehicle or the OBDII protocols. We like to call OBDII a "real dog's breakfast." The OBDII spec, which is better described as a "guideline", has been implemented differently by domestic and foreign vehicle manufacturers resulting in 6 different protocols. Across their vehicle lines, the manufacturers often use the same parameter ID (PID) to represent different parameters. To make matters worse, some of the data is available to the public in the OBDII spec (generic PIDs), and other data is proprietary to the manufacturers (enhanced PIDs). Some data is available on the engine controller, other data is on the body/chassis controller, and there's more data to be found on the instrument panel controller. Oh yeah, sometimes knowing which PID to request depends on the 8th digit of the VIN! Understanding this mess is a Herculean effort.
Enter B&B's OBDII Streamer. We've identified the data that telematics companies require in order to deliver ROI to their fleet customers. The OBDII Streamer automatically retrieves the following vehicle parameters.*
- Vehicle Speed - Monitor aggressive driving
- Engine Speed - Monitor idle time and engine abuse
- Throttle Position
- Odometer/Distance Traveled - Monitor trip distance and HOS
- Instantaneous Fuel Rate in Gallons per Hour/Total Fuel - Monitor MPG & Protect against theft
- Ignition status
- Battery Voltage
- PTO Status - Automatically figure fuel tax savings
- Brake Switch Status
- Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- MIL Status
- Emissions Readiness Monitors - Check remotely if vehicles are ready for emissions certification
- Other parameters available on a custom basis
*Not all vehicles support all parameters. The Streamer works with OBDII vehicles manufactured to be sold in the United States
The OBDII Streamers give the host application tremendous flexibility when it comes to receiving data from the vehicle. The OBDII Streamer can be configured to send data automatically or upon request:
Field upgradeable and built to withstand harsh environmental conditions, the streamer operates from -40 - + 85c, and has been tested to strict shock and vibration standards. It can also provide power to the connected device on pin 9 of the serial version. For out-of-sight installations, B&B's patent-pending OBDII Y-cable doesn't block the diagnostic port or interfere with a technician's scan tool.
